The A2 Key is a basic level exam intended to prove your capability to speak and understand English in simple circumstances. It is a well- rounded exam, testing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

This basic level qualification is a great exam to prepare for, if you are brand new to learning English. An A2 Key certificate proves that you are able to:
express yourself using simple phrases and sayings
follow uncomplicated written English
present yourself to others and respond to basic questions
communicate with English speakers at a simple level
Format of the exam
Reading and Writing (70 minutes)
9 parts/ 56 questions
Proves you can understand basic written items such as signs, flyers and life-style magazines. You will also write a simple message.
Listening (36 minutes)
5 parts/ 25 questions
Shows you are able to understand basic spoken statements when people do not speak too quickly.
Speaking (8 – 10 minutes per pair of candidates)
Calls for you to take part in a conversation with another candidate by asking and answering simple questions.
What’s changing in 2020?
Cambridge Assessment English makes sure that our language tests match modern teaching and learning research. Therefore, the A2 Key and A2 Key for Schools have been thoroughly evaluated and updated. The new revised exams will be offered from the beginning of January 2020.
For candidates aged 17 or under on the exam days who do not own a valid ID or cannot get an emergency passport, please complete this form and send it to the office at the latest two weeks before the exam.

A bottle of still water is allowed.
What if the expiration date on my identification is expired?

Standard Exam plus Retake Option
Candidates who choose this option upon registration will benefit from all the advantages of the standard exam PLUS the Retake Option. (subject to this exam centre's Conditions and Regulations for Entry)
Candidates who fail to achieve the lowest passing score in their exam level by 1, 2 or 3 points are entitled to retake the same exam again.
The retake exam must be taken within 6 months of the original written exam date
The retake exam will be free of charge
Choosing Speaking Partners
Partners must register for the same exam level, region, written and speaking test dates.
The first person to register cannot select a partner but will receive a reference code upon registration
The second person to register should enter this code during the online registration process

I , ask that these candidates be admitted to this examination. I undertake on their behalf to ensure that these candidates are made aware of and comply with the regulations and the arrangements made by the Centre Exams Manager as stated in the Important Links section below.
In the case of minors I have obtained the necessary permission from a parent or guardian to take a test day photo if required.

I have informed the candidates that they must bring a valid ID/Passport to the examination. I understand that if candidates do not show a valid ID/Passport at the examination, they will not be allowed to sit the examination.
I understand that registrations are only valid once proof of full payment together with a copy of the registered candidate list has been received by the exam centre.
